Taqueria Mi Hacienda is Pasadena's best kept secret

On the night of my most recent visit to Taqueria Mi Hacienda it was pouring rain, but on Taco Tuesday we do research for Taqueria Thursday,

so out we went!

Luckily, I live near the Houston/Pasadena border so it was less than a 2-mile drive before we arrived at Mi Hacienda. Walking in I was impressed by the spacious interior, ample seating, and bar that lined the left interior wall of the restaurant. They boast a really great happy hour from 4-7 PM where you can get imported bottles for $2.99 each and domestic for $1.99. (Anyone want to go back for happy hour??)

Several specials were up for the taking on Tuesday night and I decided on costillas de res. For $8.99 I received a sizzling platter of 6 beef riblets served alongside rice, charro beans, lettuce, tomato, pico de gallo, guacamole, and three corn tortillas. Atop perfectly grilled onions and thinly sliced bell pepper, the costillas de res were perfectly browned at the edges and had absorbed hints of the onion and peppers they rested on. They were tender and easy to cut and bite into.

Each item we ordered was brought to the table as it was ready, meaning that each plate was served hot and delicious. Across the table there was a taco de pastor with tender, spicy pork and a torta de carne asada sandwiched in the softest and sweetest telera bread I've had at any of the taquerias we've visited so far.

I hadn't even finished eating before I decided that Mi Hacienda was Pasadena's best kept secret. The food we were served at Mi Hacienda has been the best I've eaten so far on my taqueria journey. That's right. I said it!

Don't believe me? Stop by and and see for yourself. Oh, and be sure to tag @wander.through in your pics!

Price of our meal:

1 torta de carne asada
